Old at 44
I overdid it riding my bike to work this morning. I felt faint and had to lie on the floor for a while in my office before I could start my day.
I only live a mile and a half from work, but over that short distance my route drops about 120 feet in elevation, then climbs back up another 90 feet. Back when I was mountain biking regularly, that would have been nothing. Now that I’m older and out of shape, pushing hard on that climb — even on pavement — is too much.
At least someone brought doughnuts.
I can totally relate. I wanted to go with a group on a 2-day, 30 mile walk around L.A. that included over 100 staircases that were built around the neighborhoods of Silverlake & Echo Park in the 1920s. I was only physically able to complete 4 miles and about 15 staircases. I was devistated and disgusted with myself, but then my anger turned into determination and now I’m walking every day… training for the next walk.
I encourage you to get back into shape with your bike riding!!

Oh, yeah, those doughnuts will make you younger and fitter again!

@Jinj: Stairs can be a killer. I remember when I climbed the BankOne Building stairs in Phoenix. It kicked my butt, and I was in shape then.
@David: I see you understand my joy implicitly.
