2009:Hurry the f**k up already!

Posted By: Catherine @ 7:38 pm

My four-leaf clover lost a leaf.
Seriously. Last Christmas, I received a four-leaf clover pressed between two panes of glass as a gift. Right around the time that everything in my life started to head South, I realized that my goddamn clover had lost a leaf. You can see it, that lone leaf, hanging out at the bottom of the frame.

Engagement? Broken. Purse? Stolen. Diet? Failed. Job? Lost.

2008 hasn’t been such a stellar year for me. Maybe 2009 will be my year. Maybe it won’t. But I sure as hell am throwing that fucking clover out.

  1. If only I had the courage to include profanity in my posts - shame that would be fifty words right there…

  3. I love that you cussed. I was once pleasantly reprimanded for doing so, so I’ve stopped. But, sometimes it’s needed.

  4. Oh, be still my aching cheeks from laughing.

    That fucking clover.

I’ve gotta link to this post. I’m gonna!! (Check my blog soon after I post this, but give me like an hour, cause I’m still reading other blogs.

(Oh, just re-read this, I meant my face cheeks from laughing…)

  5. How funny is this. I have never found a four leaf clover nor have I ever been given one. I guess a three leaf clover would have to do.

This is too funny. I came to you by Jannie above!

  8. I recently found your blog through Jannie’s blog. :)

Wow, that’s pretty crazy. I am not the superstitious type usually but things like this can’t be pure coincidence, can they? I hope 2009 treats you better.

  11. Shit! I think that might be my problem as well! I’m gonna go check out my fucking clovers and see if I’ve lost a leaf! lol. (btw, found you through Jannie Funster)

  12. I have one of those clover things on a necklace. Better go check to see if all of the leaves are in place. If not, that could explain a lot.

I found you through Jannie Funster and definitely tagging you as a fav. Great blog.

  13. Well, well, well. Who knew you and that fucking clover would be so goddamn popular?

    Still laughing here!

Again, as I said in the e-mail, look for me doing a follow-up post to my first one. Either tomorrow or Monday.

  14. That is funny. And yet tragic. I’d be tempted to save it- break that glass apart ever so gently paste the lost leaf back on.

  15. ha! Jannie seems to have brought you a lot of new readers (myself included) and yeah, shedding clovers are BAD NEWS - it’s written in Murphy’s Law, just not the popular ones…

Here’s to hoping 2009 is a better (stellarly 4-leafed) year!

  16. Jannie has such great referrals-

Are you sure that’s the prob?
Defective lucky charms should be burnt or salted to stop their magic powers…

“Maybe 2009 will be my year. ” A kid at work asked about the New Year stated with umph that “2009 will be my year!” n that’s what I’m going to put on my header for New Years, cus he wrote the “I’ll try to give 2008 a chance” too!

    What a coinkydink!

  17. May I suggest getting rid of it the way Burnie girls got rid of love letters in 1996, burning it in an on fire oil drum while Alanis plays in the background?

  18. Hey sis,
Pretty funny blog. I got the same present from dad. It is sitting on my desk looking at me and gathering dust. I have shitty ass luck anyway. Should I fedex this little green monster to you? Vampahs….

  19. well, as the giver of the gift, i would send it back to ‘red envelope’ saying that it didn’t get the job done and you would like your money back. what do you think of that? the tide is turning…i just feel it! xo moms

  20. Perhaps you (and the giver) have been tricked. 4 leaf clovers are only common in certain places. (even found a 5 leaf once) What you may have is a 3 leaf clover with a ’spare’ leaf artfully placed. With a shifted glass, the ’spare’ fell away.

Thus, it was never ‘lucky’ to begin with and its truth was simply revealed around the same time as some others. From what I’ve seen, an engagement is better ended than a marriage so that was actually lucky. You’re not going to find better if you’re still stuck with the old. Good things have a way of being seen more easily then too.

And why lay it on 2009? The object here is to enjoy the journey, not get hung up on what happened. Autumn would be pretty dark if we got stuck on every falling leaf. ;-)

  21. Hey Cat- Love the post. I would be glad to offer up our backyard fire pit in Berkeley for disposal of the pesky clover. :) DB
